New Haven, Conn. (8/27/24) Last season's regular season champion -- Thomas Jefferson University -- was tabbed first in the 2024 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The voting for the poll was conducted by the league's 12 head coaches in the sport.
The Rams earned 114 points and six first-place nods in the voting, narrowly edging out two-time defending CACC Champion University of Bridgeport for the top spot in the 2024 poll. The Purple Knights logged 108 points and four first-place votes. Both teams qualified for last season's NCAA Division II Tournament. Wilmington University rounded out the top three in the poll with 100 points (1 1st-place vote), while last season's other CACC finalist -- Holy Family University -- was fourth with 89 points and the final first-place tally.
HFU played to a draw with Jefferson in last season's CACC semifinals before advancing via penalty kicks. WilmU finished second in the league standings a season ago and advanced to the CACC postseason.
Several changes take place in CACC Women's Soccer for the 2024 season including welcoming in a new associate member in the sport in Lincoln University (Pa.). The Lions enter the CACC as an associate member in both women's soccer and baseball for the 2024-25 academic year. Lincoln will be the 12th member school to compete in women's soccer as Bloomfield College announced it would discontinue the sport beginning this fall.
The 2024 CACC Women's Soccer Season gets underway on Thursday, Sept. 5, with several schools in action that day. The regular season will be a buildup to the 2024 CACC Championship in mid-November which will feature a new format this fall. Both the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will be hosted at the sites of the highest seeds on Monday, Nov. 11 and Thursday, Nov. 14. The CACC Soccer Championship Banquet will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Wilmington University in Delaware, and the school will host the conference final on Sunday, Nov. 17, at the WU Athletics Complex. The winner of the CACC Championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament the following weekend at a site to be determined.
