Sparkill, N.Y. (9/7/24) The Dominican University New York women's soccer team earned their first win of the 2024 season with a 2-0 shutout over non-conference rival St. Thomas Aquinas College this afternoon.
The Lady Chargers improve to 1-1 overall on the season while the Spartans drop to 0-1-1 overall.
DU goalkeeper Nelly Arvidsson earned her first win and shutout of the season after making four saves.
STAC keeper Haley Liss falls to 0-1 on the season.
The Lady Chargers scored both goals in the first half. Jessie Maraia scored her second goal in as many games to put Dominican on top early. Kaitlyn Zeeb picked up the assist on the Maraia goal.
Maraia recorded an assist later in the first half after setting up Freshman Emilie Stochkel for her first career goal to give the Lady Chargers a 2-0 advantage before halftime.
The score would remain 2-0 throughout the rest of the game and DU secured their first win of the season.
Dominican finished with 11 shots with Maraia and Stochkel combining for seven.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they visit the Dolphins of the College of Staten.
