Newark, Del. (11/11/24) The sixth-seeded Lady Chargers of Dominican University New York advanced to the 2024 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Championship Semifinals with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the third-seeded Wildcats of Wilmington University in quarterfinal action played today at the WU Athletics Complex.
With the win, the Lady Chargers improves to 8-8-2 overall on the season and advances to the semifinals where they will take on #2 Caldwell University on Thursday, November 14th.
The Wildcats, who are ranked seventh in the latest NCAA DII East Region Rankings, struck for the game's first score at the 12:50 mark for the early advantage and maintained that lead at the break.
Dominican tied the game at 51:46 as Sabine Sorensen had a great forward pass into the top of the box to Jessie Maraia who's shot went past the sliding keeper to find the back of the net and make the score 1-1.
The game-winner also came off the foot of Maraia at 77:10 following the pass from Kaitlyn Zeeb to lift DUNY to the 2-1 victory.
DUNY held the advantage in both shots, 12-10, and corner kicks, 4-3, in the game.
Lady Charger keeper Brielle Bell made four saves in the victory.
