Bio

Coach Axelrod was hired in June of 2023 as the 11th head coach in program history.

Axelrod comes to Dominican from Saint Peter’s University where he spent the last three years as the first assistant on the Peacock staff.  As part of the SPU staff, the 2022 team recorded the most wins in a season since 2009, increased their roster size from 14 to 28, coached four MAAC All-Conference players and one professional player, along with 19 MAAC All-Academic Honorees.  The 2021 team recorded their highest RPI since 2011 and boasted a Spring 2022 team GPA of 3.69.

Other collegiate stops include three years as an assistant men’s soccer coach at Fordham University and spent two seasons as a graduate assistant men’s soccer coach at LIU-Brooklyn.  Axelrod also served as an assistant men’s and volunteer women’s coach at Whitman College. As part of the Rams staff, the team won the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship and qualified for the NCAA Tournament.  In 2017, the team were NCAA Tournament Quarterfinalists and were ranked as high as seventh in the nation.  While at LIU-Brooklyn, the team won the 2015 NEC Championship and qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

Axelrod holds a USSF National ‘C’ license and several diplomas from United Soccer Coaches.

His collegiate career was spent at Whitman College where he was a four-year starting goalkeeper.  Axelrod served as team captain, was a recipient of the Borleske Award, named the NWC Defensive Player of the Year and to the First Team, along with being a four-time NWC Player of the Week.  Axelrod was among the top five national statistics leaders in goals against average and save percentage.

A 2009 graduate of Whitman College, Axelrod earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology.  He went on to earn a master's degree in human resource management from Stony Brook University.
