WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL COMPLETES DAY TWO OF SHARKS INVITATIONAL

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (9/2/23) The Dominican University New York women's volleyball team returned to action today for day two of the 2023 Shark Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern University.

Dominican fell in the opening match 3-0 to Nova Southeastern University and then fell in match two to the Griffins of Seton Hill University.

Dominican falls to 0-4 overall to begin the 2023 season. 

Match One: The Chargers opened day two of the Shark Invitational with the host of the tournament Nova Southeastern University. 

The Sharks swept Dominican with a 25-15 win in the opening set, a 25-14 win in the second set, and a 25-20 victory in the third set.

Elizabeth Perez (Miami, Fla.) led the Chargers with nine kills and 9.5 points. Kaitlyn Carr (Rogers, Ark.) and Aaliyah Ellis (League City, Texas) each finished with five kills. Carr added 6.5 points and four digs while Ellis scored 5.5 points. 

Abigail Thompson (Aledo, Texas) finished the match with a team-high six digs. Maura Asadourian (Shertz, Texas) led the Chargers in assists with eight and Kaedon Sanstead (Scottsdale, Ariz.) finished with six assists. 

For NSU, Taylor Stockman scored 12 points, including four service aces, and recorded seven kills. Brittany Landrumscored 11 points and added five kills. 

Gabrielle Spankus finished with a match-high 19 assists while Varshini Panuganti added a team-high 12 digs. Elizabeth Price finished with 10 digs.

Match Two: The Chargers completed day two and completed the two-day tournament at the Shark Invitational with the Griffins of Seton Hill University.

The Griffins completed the 3-0 sweep over the Chargers to improve to 1-3 overall.

Kaitlyn Carr led the way for the Chargers with a team-high 12 points and 11 kills. Carr also contributed six digs and three assists. 

Linda Armao Peng (Houston, Texas) recorded a team-high 10 digs while Delaney Ott (Fairbanks, Alaska) added eight digs. Asadourian finished with another team-high 10 assists.

The Griffins were led by Peyton Rodberg and Paige Cole who each finished with 10 kills. Cole scored 10.5 points and six digs while Rodberg scored 10 points. Abby Oesterling recorded a match-high 23 assists.

Dominican returns to action next Friday, September 8th when they compete in the Tri-Match at Southern Connecticut University. The Chargers will take on SCSU at 3:00 PM and then Saint Anselm College at 5:00 PM.
