
DOMINICAN PICKS UP WIN AGAINST CALDWELL IN CACC OPENER
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/14/23) The Dominican University New York women's volleyball team picked up their first win of the season after besting the Cougars of Caldwell University, 3-1 (25-18, 25-22, 12-25, 25-22) this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win Dominican improves to 1-7 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Caldwell drops to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the CACC.
The Chargers held an 11-9 advantage in the first set when they scored nine straight points to jump to a 20-9 lead. Back-to-back kills from Savannah Tody (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Elizabeth Perez (Miami, Fla.) gave DUNY a 25-18 set win and the 1-0 match lead.
Caldwell countered in the second set by scoring the first seven points and would hold an 17-11 advantage when Dominican charged back into set with an 8-1 tear to claim a 19-18 edge. Kaitlyn Carr (Rogers, Ark.) would close out the set with a kill and service ace for the 2-0 match lead.
The Cougars would dominate the third set en route to the 25-12 win to cut the deficit to 2-1 for the match, but the Chargers would rally to close out the match in the fourth set on consecutive kills from Carr for the 3-1 match win.
Carr would lead all attackers with a season high 19 kills and added seven defensive digs.
Sophomore Perez finished with 13 kills and 10 digs, while libero Linda Armao Peng (Houston, Texas) tallied 16 digs.
Rookie Kaeden Sanstead (Scottsdale, Ariz.) recorded a career high 44 assists and 10 digs in the win, with Aaliyah Ellis (League City, Texas) contributing sevn kills, two block solos and three block assists.
Dominican continues their five match homestand on Friday evening when they host Mercy College in a non-conference match on Coach Baxter Court.
