
CARR AND PEREZ LEAD DOMINICAN OVER POST
Waterbury, Conn. (9/21/23) The Dominican University New York women's volleyball team earned a road conference victory over the Eagles of Post University by a score of 3-1.
The Chargers improve to 4-9 overall and 2-0 in the CACC while the Eagles fall to 2-10 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
The Chargers opened the match with a 25-22 victory in the first set. Post scored the first five points of the opening set. Dominican answered back to tie the Eagles at 12-12 after outscoring Post 11-7.
Both teams traded points down the stretch but Dominican scored the final four points to take a 1-0 match lead.
The Chargers cruised in the second set after opening with a 13-3 run. Post ended the run and cut the deficit to 14-8 but the Chargers outscored the Eagles 11-4 to secure the 2-0 lead.
The Eagles bounced back in the third set with a strong 25-10 victory to get on the board. The Eagles opened the set on a 10-2 run and never looked back.
In the fourth set, both teams battled early until the Chargers used a 7-2 run to gain some breathing room and never lost the lead on their way to the 25-20 victory in the fourth set to secure the 3-1 win.
The Chargers were led by Kaitlyn Carr (Rogers, Ark.) who scored 18.5 points and recorded 14 kills and Elizabeth Perez (Miami, Fla.) who also finished with 14 kills and scored 17 points.
Carr also added three block assists and 14 digs, which was a team-high, while Perez recorded 13 digs.
Savannah Tody (Minneapolis, Minn.) added 11 points, eight kills, and a team-high three service aces. Linda Armao Peng (Houston, Texas) finished with 11 digs while Abigail Thompson (Aledo, Texas) and Kaeden Sanstead (Scottsdale, Ariz.) each added 10 digs. Sanstead also recorded a team-high 36 assists.
The Chargers return to action this Saturday when they travel to Felician University for a CACC north division contest at 12:00 PM.
