
SAINTS OUTLAST CHARGERS IN FIVE SETS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/6/23) The Dominican University New York women's volleyball team fell in non-conference action to the Saints of D'Youville University on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
The Saints defeated the Chargers in five sets. D'Youville improves to 5-11 overall while the Chargers fall to 6-11.
The Chargers won a back and forth opening set for the 1-0 lead. D'Youville controlled most of the second set before Dominican made a late push to cut the deficit to five points after a 6-0 run. The Saints held Dominican at 18 points to even the match 1-1.
The Saints outlasted the Chargers in the third set 27-25 to win their second consecutive set to take a 2-1 match lead.
Dominican trailed 16-10 in the fourth set but used a strong 15-5 run to close out the set and force a fifth and final set.
The Saints jumped out in front early in the final set but Dominican answered to even the score at 6-6. D'Youville jumped back out in front and used a 9-3 run to solidify the 3-2 victory.
Lyla Chiasson (Flower Mound, Texas) led the way in kills with 12 and scored 14 points. Chiasson also added 14 digs. Nicolette Piscopo (Wantagh, N.Y.) also added 14 digs and recorded six assists.
Savannah Tody (Minneapolis, Minn.) added eight kills and scored 15 points including three service aces and a team-high six block assists. Andreya Davis (Peekskill, N.Y.) and Sienna Hunter (Pine Bush, N.Y.) each finished with 11 kills. Delaney Ott (Fairbanks, Alaska) added a team-high 15 digs.
The Saints were led by Eve Musielak who finished with 15 kills and 15.5 points. Emma Wlostowski and Madeline O'Brien each recorded a team-high 17 digs. Mitha Hatwar finished with 37 assists.
The Chargers will look to bounce back Saturday afternoon as they travel to Thomas Jefferson University for a CACC match up with the Rams at 12:00 PM.
