
CHARGERS SPLIT SEASON SERIES WITH EAGLES
Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/19/23) The Dominican University New York women's volleyball team was edged by the Eagles of Post University in five sets.
Both teams traded victories in the first four sets with Dominican winning the opener and third sets while Post took the second and fourth sets before completing the win in the fifth set,
With the loss, the Chargers fall to 8-14 overall and 6-3 in conference play. The Eagles improve to 5-17 overall and 5-5 in conference play.
Dominican opened the first set strong by scoring five of the first six points. Post closed the gap and cut the lead to one point but the Chargers extended the lead and never looked back to take a 1-0 lead.
The Chargers opened the second set strong but the Eagles fought their way back to take the lead. Post used a 7-2 run to extend the lead before Dominican scored five consecutive points to cut the lead to one.
The Eagles held off the Chargers and outscored Dominican 8-3 to tie the match at 1-1.
Dominican took a 2-1 lead after holding off a late push in the third set over the Eagles. Post then started off the fourth set strong on a 5-0 run and continued their strong play to extend the lead to 20-10.
The Chargers scored five unanswered points late to cut the deficit to 24-20 but the Eagles were able to secure the win and force a fifth set.
The Eagles used a 9-3 run to extend to a 10-5 lead over the Chargers. Dominican cut the deficit to 11-9 but the Eagles scored the last four points for the 15-9 win and took the match 3-2.
The Chargers were led by Elizabeth Perez (Miami, Fla.) who recorded a team-high 17 kills and 18.5 points. Perez also added eight digs, Kaitlyn Carr (Rogers, Ark.) finished with 14 kills, 16.5 points, and six digs.
Linda Armao Peng (Houston, Texas) added a team-high 20 digs and recorded eight assists. Maura Asadourian (Schertz, Texas) added a team-high 22 assists while Kaeden Sanstead (Scottsdale, Ariz.) recorded nine assists. Aaliyah Ellis (League City, Texas) recorded four block assists and three solo blocks.
The Eagles were led by Caley Harper who finished with 22 points, 19 kills, and 11 digs. Alyssa Groves added 29 digs while Izabella Rae recorded 38 assists. Niah Msidor added six block assists and two solo blocks.
The Chargers will look to bounce back this Saturday when they travel to Holy Family University to take on the Tigers at 12:00 PM.
