
CHARGERS FALL IN FIVE SETS TO TIGERS
Philadelphia, Pa. (10/21/23) The Dominican University New York women's volleyball team fell in conference action to the Tigers of Holy Family University this afternoon at the Campus Center in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Chargers fall to 8-15 overall and 6-4 in the CACC while the Tigers improve to 7-16 overall and 5-5 in conference play.
HFU opened the match with a 25-22 victory in the opening set. The Tigers used a 7-2 run late to take control and secure the opening set.
The Chargers bounced back to win both the second set and third set to take a 2-1 match lead. Dominican held off a late push by the Tigers in the second set and won 25-23 to even the match 1-1.
The Chargers opened the third set with an 11-3 run. The Tigers answered back with a 10-4 run to cut the deficit to two points. Dominican never lost the lead and secured the 25-20 victory for the 2-1 advantage.
The Tigers used a strong start in the fourth set to extend to an 8-3 lead. Dominican answered back after outscoring HFU 9-5 to cut the deficit to 13-12.
The Tigers used a 5-0 run to take an 18-12 lead before the Chargers answered right back to cut the deficit back to one. The Tigers scored six of the last nine points to secure the 25-21 win and forced a fifth and final set.
Both teams played a back and forth fifth set. After Dominican tied the set at 8-8, the Tigers used a 7-2 to solidify the victory.
Elizabeth Perez (Miami, Fla.) and Kaitlyn Carr (Rogers, Ark.) combined for 25 kills and 31 points. Carr and Linda Armao Peng (Houston, Texas) each recorded a team-high 14 digs. Kaeden Sanstead (Scottsdale, Ariz.) added a team-high 33 assists and recorded 12 digs.
Aaliyah Ellis (League City, Texas) added 11.5 points including seven block assists and eight kills. Lindley McCutcheon (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) recorded 7.5 points and three service aces while Savannah Tody (Minneapolis, Minn.) added six points, five kills, and two block assists.
The Chargers return to action on Wednesday to begin a five-game homestand when they host the Golden Falcons of Felician University at 7:00 PM in the Hennessy Center.
