VOLLEYBALL WINS EXCITING MATCH ON SENIOR DAY
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/4/23) The Dominican University New York women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over the Lions of Georgian Court University on Senior Day.
Prior to today's match, the Chargers honored their two Seniors with a pregame ceremony. The Chargers recognized Seniors Linda Armao Peng (Houston, Texas) and Alexis Boettcher (Paramus, N.J.) for their hard work and dedication as a Charger.
With the win the Chargers improve to 10-18 overall and 8-6 in conference play. GCU falls to 13-11 overall and 7-7 in the CACC.
The Chargers opened the match with a solid effort in the first set to take a 1-0 match lead. In the second set, the Chargers trailed 17-6 before going on a 7-0 run including six consecutive service aces by Delaney Ott (Fairbanks, Alaska) to cut the deficit to four points.
The Chargers outscored the Lions 13-7 the rest of the way to complete the come from behind 26-24 victory in the second set for the 2-0 advantage. Ott completed the second set with eight total service aces which was a match high.
The Lions bounced back in the third set with a 25-19 victory to get on the board and force a fourth set.
Dominican started the fourth set hot on a 6-0 run. GCU used a 6-2 run to cut the deficit to two points. The Chargers extended the lead after a 7-2 run but the Lions answered back with a 7-1 run to cut the DU lead to one.
The score stayed close down the stretch but the Chargers solidified the victory after Aaliyah Ellis (League City, Texas) recorded her fifth block of the match.
Kaitlyn Carr (Rogers, Ark.) recorded 15 kills which brings her career total to 801. Carr also added a team-high 17 points scored and recorded 10 digs.
Elizabeth Perez (Miami, Fla.) finished with nine kills, 10.5 points, and 15 digs. Freshman Setter Kaeden Sanstead (Scottsdale, Ariz.) finished with a team-high 35 assists while Senior Peng added a team-high 24 digs.
Ellis finished with five total blocks which included two solo blocks and three block assists. Ellis added 10.5 and seven kills while Savannah Tody (Minneapolis, Minn.) added six kills and one solo block for seven points.
The Chargers return to action next Wednesday when they travel to the University of Bridgeport to take on the Purple Knights at 7:00 PM.
