
CHARGERS UPENDED BY PURPLE KNIGHTS
Bridgeport, Conn. (11/8/23) The Dominican University New York women's volleyball squad dropped a 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 30-28) decision to host the University of Bridgeport this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division match played at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium.
Following the loss, the Chargers now stand at 10-19 overall 8-7 and in conference play.
The first set was tied at 9-9 when Dominican charged ahead by going on an 8-1 run to jump out to a 17-10 advantage. Bridgeport countered by scoring the next eight straight points to pull ahead 18-17 and later tied at 23-all, sophomore Elizabeth Perez (Miami, Fla.) put Dominican at set point after recording a kill to make the score 24-23. UB scored the next three points, two of them on kills for the set victory.
In the third set the Chargers trailed 24-21 when they scored four straight points, beginning with a kill from Aaliyah Ellis (League City, Texas) and ending with a kill from Perez to make the score 25-24. From there the teams would trade points until the Purple Knights closed out the match on consecutive kills for the 30-28 set win and 3-0 match victory.
Junior outside hitter Kaitlyn Carr (Rogers, Ark.) led Dominican with 13 kills and eight digs on the evening.
Perez finished with 10 kills , a .304 attack percentage and 13 digs, while Ellis had five block assists and four kills.
Setter Kaeden Sanstead (Scottsdale, Ariz.) had 19 assists and Maura Asadourian (Schertz, Texas) tallied 10 assists.
Linda Armao Peng (Houston, Texas) reocrded 11 digs in the loss.
Dominica will close out the regular season with a road contest at Chestnut Hill College this coming Saturday.
