
CHARGERS FALL IN SEASON OPENER TO MAVERICKS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/12/24) The Dominican University New York women's volleyball team fell to the Mavericks of Mercy University in their season opener on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
The Mavericks improve to 3-1 overall while the Chargers fall to 0-1.
Mercy took the opening set 25-19 and then followed up with a 25-15 win in the second set for the 2-0 lead. The Mavericks held off a late push in the third set and completed the sweep.
The Chargers were led by Senior Kaitlyn Carr who finished with 12 kills and scored 12 points. Carr also added eight digs. Setter Layla Shipley finished with 24 assists and five digs.
Savannah Tody added seven kills while Elizabeth Perez and Alexandria De Iasi each finished with four kills. Kylie Flynn recorded a team-high 10 kills.
The Mavericks were led by Gabriela Bieniek who finished with a match high 24.5 points which included 18 kills and five service aces. Grace Dilena and Aitza Cruz combined for 22 digs while Adriana Rivera Rodriguez added a match high 36 assists.
The Chargers return to action tomorrow night as they host West Chester University at 6:00 PM in the Hennessy Center.
