PURPLE KNIGHTS EVEN SERIES WITH VICTORY OVER WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/22/24) The Dominican University New York women's volleyball team fell 3-2 to the visiting Purple Knights from the University of Bridgeport in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division clash on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win, the Purple Knights even the season series, 1-1 and improve to 13-9 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
Dominican now stands at 7-8 overall and 4-4 in the CACC.
The Lady Chargers won the first two sets 25-22 and 25-23 for the 2-0 advantage, but UB rallied to take sets three and four, 25-13 and 25-22 to force the decisive fifth set.
In the fifth set, DUNY jumped out to an early 4-1 lead, but the Purple Knights would rally again to tie the set at 6-6. A service error would put the Lady Chargers at match point, but back-to-back UB kills would turn the tide and give them the 15-14 lead. Kaitlyn Carr would recorded a kill to re-tie the match at 15-all, however two consecutive points by the Bridgeport game the 17-15 set and and 3-2 match victory.
Carr led the Lady Chargers with 18 kills and 14 digs.
Senior Aaliyah Ellis added 16 kills and four block assists, while setter Kaeden Sanstead tallied 50 assists.
Linda Armao Peng had a match best 19 digs and Elizabeth Perez contributed 13 kills and 14 digs in the loss.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Holy Family University at 12pm on Coach Baxter Court.
