
#3N DOMINICAN OUTLASTS #2S CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE IN FIVE SETS TO EARN FIRST CACC TOURNAMENT WIN SINCE 2012 AND A SPOT IN THE CACC SEMIFINALS
Philadelphia, Pa. (11/19/24) The #3 seed in the north Dominican University New York Lady Chargers traveled to #2 seed in the south division Chestnut Hill College Griffins for the 2024 CACC Women's Volleyball Championship Quarterfinals.
The Lady Chargers outlasted the Griffins in five sets to earn their first CACC Tournament victory since 2012 and a spot in the CACC Semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins jumped in front with a 25-21 victory in the opening set for a 1-0 match lead. Dominican bounced back with their own 25-21 victory in the second set to tie the match at 1-1.
The third set saw the Griffins use a 6-0 run to take control and then ended the set on a 7-3 run to take a 2-1 match advantage.
Dominican started the fourth set off strong and led the Griffins by six points. CHC outscored the Lady Chargers 13-7 to tie the fourth set at 21-21.
CHC held the match point as they led 24-23 but the Lady Chargers rallied for three straight points to secure the 26-24 victory and force the fifth and decisive set.
Dominican carried over their momentum at the end of the fourth set into the fifth set by jumping out to a 3-0 lead and later extended to a 7-3 lead. DU continued to extend their lead on their way to the thrilling 3-2 quarterfinal victory.
Elizabeth Perez led the way with 20.5 points scored on 17 kills, including the final kill of the fifth set which sealed the win, two service aces, one solo block, and one block assist. Kaitlyn Carr added 12 kills and 12 digs.
Savannah Tody picked up eight kills and a team-high three block assists. Aaliyah Ellis scored 15 points with seven kills, seven big solo blocks, and added two block assists. Lindley McCutcheon also recorded seven kills while leading the team in service aces with three.
Kaeden Sanstead recorded 42 assists and 12 digs while Linda Armao Peng recorded a match high 25 digs.
Dominican will now take on #1 seed in the north division Post University in the CACC Semifinals this Saturday hosted by Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J.
