CHARGERS DROP FIRST CONFERENCE GAME OF THE SEASON TO CALDWELL UNIVERSITY

The game opened conference play for the 2021 season for the Chargers who now hold a record of 4-3 (0-1 CACC). The Cougars improve to 3-1 (1-0 CACC) after the win.
Cole Fancher (Gilboa, N.Y.) took the mound for DC and recorded six strikeouts. Tom Disch recorded the win for the Cougars to improve to 1-0 on the season. Michael Hess recorded the save and recorded five strikeouts over three innings.
The Chargers jumped ahead early in the first inning when Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) earned an RBI with a sac fly.
In the second inning, Arthur Quinones (Miami, Fla.) homered to extend the lead to 2-0.
In the bottom half of the second inning, the Cougars tied the game when Jalen March hit an RBI double and then later scored when Noah Putney hit an RBI single.
Both teams traded runs in the fourth inning with Brian Sanders (La Ceiba, Honduras) driving in the run for DC and Travis Brunson driving in a run for Caldwell.
DC regained the lead in the fifth inning. The Cougars took a 7-4 lead with four runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning when Kyle Richards, Travis Brunson, and Jalen March recorded RBI's.
Frank Lehman added an RBI double in the eighth inning and later scored to give Caldwell a 9-4 lead. The Cougars would close out the victory in the top of the ninth inning.
Quinones finished the game with two hits for DC. Carmine Giordano (New Rochelle, N.Y.) recorded two hits, one RBI, and scored one run.
The Chargers will look to bounce back when they travel to Mercy College on Wednesday, March 24th for a non-conference game at 3:00 PM.
