DC took the early 3-0 lead as sophomore guard Rebecca Rabeiro (Midland Park, N.J.) scored a layup and completed the and-one with a free throw just 19 seconds into the contest. A Panther trey tied the game at 3-all and from their they closed out the quarter on an 11-4 run to take a 14-7 lead.
The Lady Chargers cut the lead to five on two foul shots from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Co-Player of the Week, Déja Gabbidon (Teaneck, N.J.), to start the second quarter, but AU closed out the first half with a 26-18 advantage.
Gabbidon led Dominican in the first half with six points, five rebounds and two blocks.
The third quarter saw both teams score team totals in single digits to give Adelphi a 35-26 lead. The final frame allowed the Panthers to pull away with the win as they outscored the Lady Chargers, 18-13, for the 53-39 victory.
Gabbidon led all scorers with 17 points and finished with a team leading eight rebounds and three blocks.
Guard Jacqueline Rywalt* (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) had a team best five assists to go along with eight points, while Rabeiro finished with seven points and a night best four steals.
Dominican will return to conference action on Saturday afternoon as they host Caldwelll University. Tip-off is slated for 1pm on Coach Baxter Court.
