With the win, the Purple Knights improve to 2-1 overall while the Lady Chargers fall to 0-2 on the season.
Keeper Lynne Garofalo (Ridgefield, N.J.) made five saves in the net for Dominican, including a key one within the last few seconds of regulation.
Dominican held a 14-13 edge in total shots for the game and a 4-3 advantage in shots in the first frame.
Victoria Bonner (Kings Park, N.Y.) had three shots on goal, while rookie Isabella Wysocki (Rahway, N.J.) had two shots on goal.
Midfielder Olivia Ferris (Staten Island, N.Y.) had a header shot off a corner kick sequence denied in the 78th minute of play.
The game-winner for SMC came in the 92nd minute on a free kick from 40 yards out.
Dominican returns to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to the University of Bridgeport.
