CHARGERS GO UNDEFEATED AT 5TH ANNUAL DANIEL SULLIVAN MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/19/16) The Dominican College men's basketball team went undefeated at the 5th Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament as they topped Mercy College, 82-68, this evening in the finale. Earlier in the night, LIU Post defeated Concordia College, 90-60.

Dominican (4-1) trailed 16-15 with just under 12 minutes remaining in the first half when they charged back with a 15-3 tear, with freshman Daraja Rodwell (Middletown, N.Y.) netting nine of them, to jump ahead 30-19. The Mavericks would rally to tie the game at 38-all with 20 seconds left and a trey at the buzzer would give them the 41-38 advantage at the intermission.
DC was hot from the three point arc as they went 7-10 (70%) in the first half.
Mercy would remain in the lead for the first five and a half minutes, but an and-one play by Austin John Huggins (Astoria, Queens) would regain a 54-52 lead with 14:07 to go. DC would trail 63-62 when sophomore E.J. Smith (Nyack, N.Y.) began a Dominican run with a three and the team would then score the next 10 of 13 points to build up a 75-66 lead and would take home the 82-68 win.
Rookie Daniel Grant (Baldwin, N.Y.) would lead three Chargers in double figures with a career high 17 points, team best seven assists and seven rebounds
Rodwell would finish with a career high 16 points, while Gerrel Irvin (Bay Shore, N.Y.) contributed the double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.
As a team, Dominican finished the game shooting above 50% from the floor, the three-point arc and the foul line.
Smith finished with eight points in reserve.
The Chargers will travel to St. Thomas Aquinas College in a non-conference game this coming Tuesday night.
