CHARGERS OUTLAST GRIFFINS

(2/4/17) The Dominican College men's basketball team outlasted the Chestnut Hill College Griffins, 77-72, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on Coach Baxter Court. Today the team celebrated Alumni Day and the 29th Annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial Game.

(2/4/17) The Dominican College men's basketball team outlasted the Chestnut Hill College Griffins, 77-72, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on Coach Baxter Court. Today the team celebrated Alumni Day and the 29th Annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial Game.
Prior to the start of the contest, the Chargers held the Annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial Ceremony and awarded the Bobby Mulligan Scholarship to junior Ray Pender (Bronx, N.Y.).
The Griffins opened the game on a 13-0 run when Dominican went on a 19-6 tear to go ahead 19-18 with 8:44 left in the first frame. From there the Chargers closed out the half on a 20-7 run to jump ahead, 39-25.
Sophomore forward Travis Cook (Middletown, N.Y.) scored 12 points, while Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) netted nine points off the bench.
Dominican led by as many as 18 points twice in the final 20 minutes of action, with the latter being a 70-52 advantage with 5:16 left in the contest. The Griffins rallied and cut the deficit to 76-72 with nine ticks left, but senior Kristopher Hargraves (Teaneck, N.J.) netted the final point of the game on a free throw for the 77-72 win.
Freshman Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) led five Chargers in double figures with 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Cook finished with 17 points, three blocks, three steals and four rebounds.
Forward Gerrel Irvin (Bay Shore) netted 14 points and six boards, while Garcia tallied 11 points and three steals.
Sayon Charles (Staten Island, N.Y.) contributed 10 points and seven caroms in reserve.
The Chargers improve to 14-9 overall and 9-5 in CACC play.
DC is back in action next Saturday as they travel to Georgian Court University.
