CHARGERS ADVANCE TO CACC MEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

(3/4/17) The Dominican College men’s basketball team advanced to the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Basketball Championship Game after defeating the top seed from the South Division, Philadelphia University, 72-64 this afternoon in a game played at the George R. Newman Center on the campus of Caldwell University.

(3/4/17) The Dominican College men's basketball team advanced to the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Basketball Championship Game after defeating the top seed from the South Division, Philadelphia University, 72-64 this afternoon in a game played at the George R. Newman Center on the campus of Caldwell University.
With the win, Dominican will take on the top seed from the North Division, Bloomfield College, in the title game tomorrow at 12pm at Caldwell University.
The Charger offense came out of the gate to begin the contest with the first 10 points and would extend their lead to 23-12 on a Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) jumper with 9:21 left in the half.
Philadelphia would cut the lead to four points (31-27) with a little over three minutes remaining, but DC retaliated with the half's final six points to rebuild a 37-27 advantage at the intermission.
Junior Gerrel Irvin (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led all scorers in the half with 14 points (6-10 from the floor), seven rebounds and three assists.
Grant finished the half with 10 points (5-8 from the floor) and seven rebounds.
Back-to-back treys from Travis Cook (Middletown, N.Y.) and Irvin began second half scoring and extended the Dominican lead to 43-27 with 16:38 left in regulation.
The Rams would cut the lead to seven two times in the final minute but that would be as close as they would get as the Chargers went on to the 72-64 victory.
Irvin led all scorers with the game's only double-double of 28 points and 13 rebounds.
Grant finished with 20 points, a team best five assists and eight boards in the victory, while Cook contributed 15 points, three steals and five caroms.
Following the win, Dominican improves to 19-11 overall.
