Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/19/16) The Lady Chargers hosted Georgian Court University this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader on the DC Softball Field.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/19/16) The Lady Chargers hosted Georgian Court University this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader on the DC Softball Field. Dominican would take the first game 10-2 in six innings, then complete the sweep with a 9-5 win in the second game. Desiree Joines (Stewartstown, Pa.) improved to 7-2 on the season earning two wins during the doubleheader.
Game 1: In the bottom of the second inning seven different players would score to give the Lady Chargers a 7-0 lead. With runners on second and third, Junior Shannon Truppi* (Little Ferry, N.J.) connected with an RBI single to center field to open up the scoring. Truppi would later score on a fielder's choice from Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.).
A two run home run by Georgian Court would cut lead to 7-2 in the third inning.
Next in the fourth DC added two runs to their lead with RBI singles from Truppi and freshman Brianna Espino (Holland, Ohio). Espino would later seal the 10-2 win with a solo home run to center field with one out in the sixth inning.
Espino led the team going 4-4 with a homerun, two runs scored, and two RBIs.
Sophomore Joines recorded the win in six innings with four strikeouts, no walks, and allowed five hits.
Game 2: Georgian Court jumped out to a 5-0 lead after a five run second inning which included two homers. Dominican would score three runs off three hits in the third capped by a Haukap single through the right side which scored Truppi. Later in the third inning Sophomore Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) would cut the deficit to one run with a RBI double to right center. DC would take the lead 8-5 in the fourth with four runs that included a two run double off the bat of junior Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.). Regan concluded the 9-5 victory with single through the left side to score Collins from second during the sixth inning.
In the game Regan led the Lady Chargers with four hits including two doubles, three RBIs and scored one run.
Joines recorded the win in relief after 5.2 innings with four strikeouts and one walk.
Dominican returns to CACC action Monday March 21st as they host Nyack College in a single game scheduled for 4PM on the DC Softball Field.
