GRIFFINS RALLY TO DEFEAT WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Philadelphia, Pa. (10/17/15) The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 3-1, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match played at Sorgenti Arena.
Philadelphia, Pa. (10/17/15) The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 3-1, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match played at Sorgenti Arena.
Dominican took the opening set by the score of 26-24, while CHC won the next three sets (25-22, 25-21, 25-16) to win the match, 3-1.
In the first set, Dominican used consecutive Griffin errors and a kill from junior Kera Dexter (Selah, Wash.) to take a 23-17 advantage. Chestnut Hill rallied with a 7-1 tear to tie the set at 24-all. Back-to-back kills from senior Ashley Joyner (Edgewood, Md.) and Kelly Murphy (Evergreen, Colo.) secured a 26-24 set win for the Lady Chargers.
DC opened the second set with a 4-0 lead and led 8-4 when the Griffins used a 6-2 run to knot the score at 10-10. With the set later tied at 22-22, CHC used a Lady Charger attack error and two kills for the 25-22 win.
The third and fourth sets belonged to the Griffin offense for the 3-1 match win.
Dexter finished with 16 kills and completed the double-double with 12 defensive digs.
Cortney Yeoman (Glenn Dale, Md.) contributed 14 kills, while setter Amanda Hallstein* (Holtsville, N.Y.) had a season high 39 assists.
Murphy had a team high 23 digs and nine digs, while Angela Kim (Marlton, N.J.) provided 19 digs.
Following the loss, Dominican falls to 3-20 overall and 3-8 in conference play.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Wednesday evening as they host Nyack College. Match time is set for 7pm on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
