LADY CHARGERS SWEEP CONCORDIA COLLEGE
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/16/16) The Dominican College women's volleyball team opened up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Clippers of Concordia College this evening in a match played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/16/16) The Dominican College women's volleyball team opened up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Clippers of Concordia College this evening in a match played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Dominican trailed 10-3 in the opening set when the team went on a 5-1 spurt to make the score 12-8. Later trailing 15-10, DC scored five straight points with sophomore Natalia Perez (Prosper, Texas) serving four of them to knot the set at 15-all. The Lady Chargers used another run, this time a 4-0 run, to make the score 23-23. Later tied at 24-24, a Clipper serving error and a service ace by Alexa Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) secured the 26-24 set win.
Concordia held a 5-2 advantage in set two when the Lady Chargers charged back into the set with a 9-2 run to pull in front 11-7. Following a Clipper point, DC served five straight points to increase the lead to 17-8 and cruised to the 25-15 win.
In the final set, Dominican held a 9-4 lead when Concordia used a 5-0 spurt to knot the score at 9-9. From there the lead would go back and fourth with neither team leading by more than four points. Concordia was at set point, 24-22, when senior Cortney Yeoman (Glenn Dale, Md.) recorded a kill and a Clipper attack error retied the set at 24-24. Another Concordia attack error put the Lady Chargers at match point, 25-24, and Yeoman closed out the match with a kill for the 26-24 win.
Yeoman finished with a career high 19 kills and just one attack error for a .600 attack percentage, while adding three block solos.
Freshman Gabrielle Napoleon (Springfield, Pa.) contributed a career high nine kills, two block solos, five block assists and a .467 attack percentage.
Setter Kera Dexter* (Selah, Wash.) tied her season high with 30 assists, while libero Angela Kim (Marlton, N.J.) had a team best nine digs.
With the win, Dominican improves to 2-7 overall and 1-0 in CACC play.
The Lady Chargers will travel to University of the Sciences tomorrow afternoon.
