EXPLOSIVE FIRST HALF LEADS LADY CHARGERS PAST GRIFFINS

Lafayette Hill, Pa. (4/12/17)  The  Dominican College women's lacrosse team scored 10 first half goals to lead them to a 14-9 victory over Chestnut Hill College this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at Victory Field #1.

The Griffins led 2-1 with a little over 20 minutes left in the first half when the Lady Charger offense went on an 8-0 tear to pull ahead 9-2.  Senior Shayne Gallagher (Blauvelt, N.Y.) and freshman Alayna Heegan (North Babylon, N.Y.) both recorded three goals a-piece in the run, while Jeanie Peluso (Stony Point, N.Y.) and Jenna Fox (Stony Point, N.Y.) each scored a goal.

Fox closed out the first half with a free position goal for the 10-3 lead.

Chestnut Hill opened the second half with a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to 10-7, but CACC Co-Player of the Week, Haliann Fitzgerald (Walden, N.Y.) netted a man-up goal off the pass from Peluso to break the run and begin a 4-0 Lady Charger run with Fox, Fitzgerald and Heegan all scoring goals to rebuild a 14-7 lead with 5:06 left in regulation.

CHC closed out the game with two goals for the final 14-9 DC win.

Gallagher and Heegan led Dominican with four game goals each in the victory.

Fox finished with three goals and one assist, while Fitzgerald netted two goals and one assist.

Peluso had one goal and a team best three assists.

Keeper Cara Moran (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) made seven saves in the net.

With the win, Dominican improves to 7-4 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
