SECOND HALF LEADS PUPLE KNIGHTS OVER WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Hillburn, N.Y. (3/13/17)  The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team used an 8-0 run in the second half to lead them to a 15-9 non-conference win over host, Dominican College, in a game played this afternoon at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

With the loss, the Lady Chargers fall to 0-3 on the season.

Saint Michael's began the scoring, but the Lady Chargers rallied with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 advantage with 22:19 left in the half.  Haliann Fitzgerald (Walden, N.Y.) and Jenna Fox (Stony Point, N.Y.) netted back-to-back free position goals, while Shayne Gallagher (Blauvelt, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal.

The Purple Knights countered with two goals to knot the score, 3-3, but DC rallied again with a 2-0 spurt as Katie Dascher (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored a goal off the assist from Amber June (Stony Point, N.Y.) and almost three minutes later Gallagher tallied her second game goal with 13:52 left in the half.

Three straight SMC goals regained a 6-5 lead, but Gallagher completed the hat trick with 3:40 left in the half on her second free position goal to re-tie the game, 6-6.

Fitzgerald put Dominican ahead 7-6 early in the second half with her second goal off the assist from Fox, but the Purple Knights would use an 8-0 tear, spanning almost 14 minutes to build a 14-7 lead.  Gallagher later followed with her fourth and fifth game goals to make the score 14-9 and Sain Michael's closed out the game with the final goal in the 15-9 win.

Gallagher led the Lady Chargers with five game goals.

Teammate Fitzgerald finished with two goals.

Junior goalie Cara Moran (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) made nine stops.

Dominican is scheduled to be in action on Thursday afternoon as they host Molloy College.
