GALLAGHER REACHES 100TH CAREER GOAL PLATEAU IN LOSS TO GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY

Hillburn, N.Y. (4/22/17)  Senior attacker Shayne Gallagher (Blauvelt, N.Y.) netted her 100th career goal with 5:12 remaining in the first half in the 14-11 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to the visiting Lions Of Georgian Court University in a game played this afternoon at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

Today was Senior Day for the Lady Chargers and the team honored their five seniors: #1 Haliann Fitzgerald (Walden, N.Y.), #14 Brandi Clay (Moriches, N.Y.), #17 Gallagher, #22 Katie Dascher (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and #25 Amber June (Stony Point, N.Y.) in a ceremony prior to the start of the contest.

GCU began the game on a 4-0 scoring run until Gallagher broke the run with a free position goal with 21:52 left in the half.  A little over two minutes later, Gallagher recorded her second game goal off the dish from Jenna Fox (Stony Point, N.Y.) to make the score 5-2.  Attacker Alayna Heegan (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the game with 11:47 to go off the pass from Fitzgerald and Gallagher netted the career milestone on a free position attempt with 5:12 left in the half to cut the deficit to 10-4.  A Lion goal before the break gave GCU an 11-4 advantage.

Fitzgerald and Fox each scored a goal within four minutes of each other to make the score 12-6 and following consecutive goals by the Lions, the team trailed 14-7 with under ten minutes to go.  In the remaining 7:39 of regulations, the Lady Chargers went on a 5-0 tear for the final 14-11 score.  Fitzgerald began the run with an unassisted goal and Fox followed with a free position score.  Jeanie Peluso (Stony Point, N.Y.) scored the man-up goal off the pass from Dascher and Fitzgerald closed out the contest with the last two goals.

Junior Cara Moran (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) had 13 saves in the loss.

Dominican finishes the regular season with an overall record of 8-5 and a program record 8-1 finish in the CACC.  The Lady Chargers finished second in the CACC and will be in action next weekend in the semi-finals of the 2017 CACC Women's Lacrosse Championships.
