CHARGERS SPLIT NON-CONFERENCE DOUBLE-HEADER

(3/11/17) The Dominican College baseball team split a non-conference double-header with the College of Saint Rose and Franklin Pierce University in games played yesterday at the USA Baseball National Training Center. The Chargers fell to the College of Saint Rose, 8-4, but bounced back to defeat Franklin Pierce University, 8-3.

(3/11/17) The Dominican College baseball team split a non-conference double-header with the College of Saint Rose and Franklin Pierce University in games played yesterday at the USA Baseball National Training Center. The Chargers fell to the College of Saint Rose, 8-4, but bounced back to defeat Franklin Pierce University, 8-3.
Game One: The Golden Knights scored in the top of the first, but Dominican countered in the bottom frame as Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to plate Jayson Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y.). DC took a 2-1 advantage in the second as Gray recorded the run-scoring single.
St. Rose brought home runs in the third, fourth and fifth stanzas to reclaim a 5-2 lead. The Chargers scored runs in the fifth and six innings on singles by Jordan Bernacet (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Gray to cut the deficit to 5-4, but a three run seventh for the Golden Knights scured the 8-4 win.
Gray and Decker finished with two hits each, while Gray had two RBIs.
Starter Nathanial Popiel (Mechanicville, N.Y.) suffered the loss in four innings of work, allowing five runs on nine hits and five strikeouts.
Game Two: The Charger offense recorded 14 hits in the 8-3 win over the Ravens with center fielder Arbely Soto (Bronx, N.Y.) leading the team with three hits and three RBIs.
Decker got things going in the top of the first with an RBI single and Soto tripled home Gray in the third. Tyler Malia (Delran, N.J.) brought home Soto with a single to increase the lead to 3-0.
The Ravens countered with runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to tie the game, 3-3, but the Chargers answered back with a four-run seventh to re-gain a 7-3 advantage. Soto had a run-scoring single, while Bernacet scored two batters later on a wild pitch. Third basemen Max Franzone (Nanuet, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single and Brett Karcher-Bowen (Cypress, Texas) added a run-scoring single.
Dominican added a run in the eighth on a sacrifice ball hit by Soto for the final 8-3 win.
Bernacet, Franzone, Malia and Decker all had two hits in the win.
John-Michael Broderick (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) improved to 2-0 on the season after going eight innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits.
With the split, Dominican improves to 4-2 on the season.
