BASEBALL'S COLON NAMED ABCA EAST REGION PLAYER OF YEAR AND EAST ALL-REGION FIRST TEAM
Orangeburg, N.Y. (6/3/21) Dominican College baseball player, Joshua Colon, has been named the 2021 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II East Region Player of the Year and to the All-East Region First Team as was announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) yesterday.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (6/3/21) Dominican College baseball player, Joshua Colon, has been named the 2021 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II East Region Player of the Year and to the All-East Region First Team as was announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) yesterday.
Colon, the senior shortstop from the Bronx, N.Y. recieves his fourth Player of the Year honors as he was previously named the CACC Player of the Year, the NCBWA East Region Player of the Year and the D2CCA East Region Player of the Year. He adds his All-Region First Team accolades to his previously awarded All-CACC First Team, NCBWA First Team and D2CCA East Region First Team honors. Colon also received NCBWA All-American Third Team honors.
He led the Chargers to a 19-15 record, the program's 18th (CACC) Championship and the No. 6 seed in the NCAA East Regional Championship. Colon batted .405 for the season, while slugging eight home runs, racking up 37 RBI and scoring 31 runs. The shortstop has also made just four errors in 106 total chances for a .963 fielding percentage. He has hit safely in 25 contests, including 10 straight from April 24-May 2. Colon ranked second in the CACC in home runs, triples and total bases, third in batting average, slugging, hits and doubles, fifth in RBI, seventh in OBP, and 12th in runs and walks. Nationally, Colon was seventh in triples, 19th in slugging and 32nd in batting.
ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. II All-Americans will be announced on Friday, June 4. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams for all divisions will be announced Wednesday, June 23.
The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
The Chair of the ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America & Coach of the Year Committee is Rudy Garbalosa of Lynn University. Also on the committee are Randy Betten (Cal Poly Pomona), Jamie Detillion (Grand Valley State University), Jim Gantt (Catawba College), Rick Giannetti (Dominican College), Alex Koch (Wayne State College), Rob Penders (St. Edward's University) and Joe Spano (Mercyhurst University).
