LADY CHARGERS FALL TO JEFFERSON
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/23/17) The Lady Chargers volleyball team hosted the Rams of Jefferson on Saturday in hopes of earning their first victory of the year.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/23/17) The Lady Chargers volleyball team hosted the Rams of Jefferson on Saturday in hopes of earning their first victory of the year. The Lady Chargers entered the match with an 0-11 record and were seeking to end Jefferson's winning streak.
Early on in the first set, Dominican stayed with Jefferson until Jefferson started to breakaway. The Rams closed out the first set by a score of 25-14 by recording only eight kills total in the set. In the second set, both teams were practically even like the first set until the Rams ran away again towards the end of the second set. The Rams ended the second set on a seven point run to end the set 25-13 and extend their match lead to 2-0.
The third set was the closest of the three while Dominican was able to keep it close for most of the set until the Rams, as they did in the first two sets, were able to close the set out by a score of 25-18 and took the match 3-0.
As for the Lady Chargers, Gabrielle Napoleon (Springfield, PA) led the way in points and kills by recording 14 points and 7 kills in the match. Essence Boyd (Peekskill, NY) scored 3 points throughout the match but also recorded 14 assists which led the team. Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, NY) recorded 5 points on 5 kills and also led the team in digs with 8.
In the third and final set, Courtney Wensel of Jefferson earned two different career milestones. Wensel entered the match closing in on 1,000 digs for her career and 1,000 kills for her career. Wensel earned both milestones in the third set and finished with 14 kills total in the match as well as 9 digs. Wensel also recorded 15 points and led her team in all three categories in the win.
The Lady Chargers now with a record of 0-12 (0-3 CACC) will travel to Adelphi University on Monday September 25th as their quest for their first win of the 2017 season continues.
