BASEBALL EARNS TWO WINS TO OPEN SEASON
Myrtle Beach, S.C. (2/24/17) The Dominican College baseball team earned two wins this afternoon to open the 2017 season in games played at Griffith Field. Dominican began the day with an 8-5 win over Merrimack College and ended the day with a 10-5 win over Stonehill College. With the wins, the Chargers are now 2-0 on the season.

Game One: The Warriors led 3-0 after 3 1/2 innings, but Dominican came back with four runs in their half of the fourth. Shortstop Joseph Libio (Tamarac, Fla.) had an RBI single and first basemen Jordan Bernacet (Schenectady, N.Y.) followed with a three-run blast to take the lead.
MC reclaimed a 5-4 advantage in the seventh, but DC countered again in the bottom frame as catcher Tyler Malia (Delran, N.J.) hit an run-scoring double to tie the game.
Dominican used a three-run eighth inning as Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) hit a two-run single and Malia later followed with an RBI single for teh 8-5 win.
Malia and Arbely Soto (Bronx, N.Y.) each had three hits, while Bernacet recorded three RBIs and Malia and Decker had two RBI's a piece.
Starter Nathanial Popiel (Mechanicville, N.Y.) went six innings in the win, allowing four runs on four hits to get the win (1-0).
Reliever Kraigen Rasalla (Scranton, Pa.) picked up his first save of the season, allowing one run one one hit in three innings of work.
Game Two: Dominican led 3-2 after five innings and takced on seven more in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings enroute to the 10-5 win over Stonehill College.
Libio finished the game with four hits, three runs scored and three RBIs.
Soto recorded three hits and three RBIs.
Brett Schneider (Coral Springs, Fla.) received the win in five innings of work, allowing two runs on five hits.
Freshman Nicholas Galese (Totowa, N.J.) pitched three innings and Kyle Morgan (Boca Raton, Fla.) came in for the ninth.
