Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/22/23) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team downed the Knights of Queens College this afternoon in non-conference action on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
The regionally ranked Chargers defeated the Knights to improve to 5-0 overall on the season. The Knights fall to 3-2 overall on the season.
The Chargers opened the game on a 9-0 run and later extended to their largest lead of the first half which was 16 points.
The Knights cut the deficit to single digits after a 15-6 run down the stretch of the first half but the Chargers still held a 44-33 lead at halftime.
The Knights began the second half by cutting the DU lead to six points. The Chargers used a big 29-0 run to extend their lead. Dominican cruised down the stretch extending to their largest lead of the game which was 39 and completed the 95-63 win.
Joseph Merrill (Derry, N.H.) finished with a team-high 19 points and went 8-13 from the field and 3-5 from three-point range. Javel Cherry (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored 14 points including a team-high four three-pointers.
Joshua Serrano (Amityville, N.Y.) also scored 14 points and went 7-10 from the field while Jaden Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) provided 14 points off the bench and recorded four boards.
Seth Sharif-Brown (Hackensack, N.J.) scored 10 points and recorded a team-high seven rebounds off the bench. Joshuel White (Paterson, N.J.) recorded a team-high seven assists.
The Chargers shot 52.8% from the field and 44.4% from three-point range. The Chargers finished the game with 19 second chance points and outscored the Knights 46-28 in the paint.
The Chargers return to action this Sunday when they host the University of New Haven at 1:00 PM in the Hennessy Center.
