MEN'S BASKETBALL OUTLASTS GRIFFINS IN 35TH ANNUAL BOBBY MULLIGAN MEMORIAL GAME
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/27/24) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team outlasted the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in the 35th Annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial Game.
Jaden Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) hit a big three-pointer with 45 seconds left to play to take the lead and held on for the four point victory.
Before today's game, the annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial Scholarship was presented to this year's recipient Isiah Benbow (Harlem, N.Y.).
The Chargers were led by Javel Cherry (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) who finished with 18 points on 8-16 from the field and recorded three steals.
Seth Sharif-Brown (Hackensack, N.J.) scored 13 points and recorded four rebounds and four assists. Isaiah Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) provided 10 points and four boards while Joshua Serrano (Amityville, N.Y.) recorded nine points off the bench.
Jaden Honis finished the game with seven points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block. Joshuel White (Paterson, N.J.) recorded a team-high seven boards.
The Chargers opened the game on a 10-0 run and later in the opening half extended to their largest lead which was 11 points.
The Griffins cut the deficit to three points before the Chargers answered to build their lead to 37-31 by halftime.
The Griffins opened the second half outscoring the Chargers 22-14 to take their first lead of the game.
Both teams battled down the stretch but the Griffins were able to extend to their largest lead of the game which was seven points by taking a 64-57 lead with 2:26 left to play.
The Chargers finished the game on a 12-1 run including the three-pointer by Honis to give Dominican the lead back with less than a minute to play and secured the victory.
The Chargers finished the game shooting 42.4% and held the edge in bench points 30-13. Dominican chased in on the 20 CHC turnovers by scoring 25 points and scored 28 points in the paint.
The Chargers return to action Monday night when they travel to Caldwell University to take on the Cougars in a north division battle at 7:30 PM.
