MEN'S BASKETBALL CHARGES PAST #1/#T12 ST. THOMAS AQUINAS COLLEGE
Sparkill, N.Y. (2/14/24) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team charged past host, St. Thomas Aquinas College, 90-73 this evening in the 2024 Doc Schelin Classic played in Aquinas Hall.
Following the loss the Spartans, currently the top team in the East Region and tied for 12th nationally (D2) in the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Rankings, fall to 19-4 on the season and see their eight game winning-streak end at the hand of the Chargers.
Dominican improves to 16-8 overall on the season.
The Chargers shot 50% (33-66) from the floor in the contest, along with going 9-12 (75%) from the charity stripe. STAC had the advantage on the glass, outrebounding their counterparts, 55-30, but Dominican scored 28 points off Spartan turnovers.
The score was tied at 17-all with 14:28 remaining in the first half when the DUNY offense got hot with a 23-9 run, capped off by a three-point basket from Joshuel White (Paterson, N.J.), to gain a 40-26 advantage with under seven minutes left in the period. Guard Joshua Serrano (Amityville, N.Y.) closed out the first half with five unanswered points to extend the Charger lead to 53-41.
Forward Seth Sharif-Brown (Hackensack, N.J.) netted 17 points in the first half, while Isaiah Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) tallied 13 points.
Dominican never trailed in the second half and led by as many as 23 points in cruising to the victory.
Sharif-Brown led four Chargers in double figures with 25 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals. He finished the game shooting 9-12 from the floor, 2-4 from the arc and 5-6 from the four line.
Serrano tallied 19 points (8-13 from the floor; 3-5 from the arc), while I. Honis added 16 points and four rebounds.
Guard Jaden Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) scored 12 points and Emmanuel Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pulled down five rebounds, three blocks and two assists.
Next up for the Chargers is a return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play as they travel to Wilmington University this coming Saturday.
