CHARGERS COMPLETE SERIES SWEEP OF COUGARS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/24/24) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team completed the series sweep of Caldwell University with an 89-85 victory this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on Coach Baxter Court.
With the win Dominican improves to 18-9 overall and 9-6 in conference play, while the Cougars fall to 13-13 overall and 8-6 in the CACC.
Prior to the start of the game, the team honored senior: #1 Joshua Serrano (Amityville, N.Y.).
Caldwell led 16-12 with 12:59 left in the first half, but the Chargers would later rally with a 19-2 run to jump ahead, 40-24 with under five minutes left in the half.
Serrano closed out the half with two free throws for a 46-37 lead at the break.
The Cougars would cut the lead to 85-83 with 15 seconds to go, but Joseph Merrill (Derry, N.H.) iced two free throws to make the score 87-83. CU would counter with two shots from the charity stripe to once again cut it to a one-possession lead at 87-85 with 12 seconds to go, however Serrano and Key'Sean Maynard (Queens, N.Y.) each hit a free throw in the final scored for the 89-85 win.
Guard Jaden Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) paced three Chargers in double figures with 17 points, six assists and four rebounds.
Joshuel White (Paterson, N.J.) finished with 16 points, five rebounds and five steals, while Serrano netted 13 points.
Red-shirt sophomore Javel Cherry (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored nine points and Isaiah Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) pulled down six rebounds and eight points in the win.
Dominican returns to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Felician University.
