FOUR LADY CHARGERS FINISH IN DOUBLE FIGURES AS DOMINICAN DOWNS COLLEGE OF STATEN ISLAND
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/14/24) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team downed the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in non-conference action from the Hennessy Center.
The Lady Chargers defeated CSI 75-58 to improve to 10-13 overall while CSI falls to 8-15 overall.
Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) led the way for the Lady Chargers with a game-high 22 points and added another game-high 13 boards for her fourth double-double of the season. Howard went 8-14 from the field and 4-5 from three-point range.
Angelina DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y.) finished with 16 points on 6-11 from the field including 4-7 from three-point range. DiMarsico also recorded four assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) scored 14 points and recorded team-highs in assists with six and steals with five. Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pulled down seven boards.
Isabella Javier (Bergenfield, N.J.) provided 10 points off the bench while Tamia Nunes (Worcester, Mass.) pulled down 10 boards and added four assists and three steals.
The Lady Chargers ended the first quarter on an 8-2 run and never looked back from there. Dominican built a double digit lead in the second quarter and held a 39-25 lead by halftime.
Dominican extended to their largest lead of the game in the third quarter which was 23 points and later closed out the 75-58 victory.
The Lady Chargers shot 43.7% from the field and 50.0% from three-point range. Dominican held the edge in points in the paint with 36 and converted 24 points off of 20 Staten Island turnovers.
Dominican returns to action and conference play on Saturday afternoon when they visit Wilmington University.
