Pomona, N.Y. (3/23/19) The Dominican College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Wildcats of Wilmington University. The Wildcats defeated DC in game one by a score of 23-1 and then in game two by a score of 6-1.
The Wildcats improved to 14-7 (4-2 CACC) after both wins and the Chargers fall to 11-8 (4-2 CACC).
Game One: The Chargers fell to the Wildcats in game one by a score of 23-1. The Wildcats recorded 28 hits in the win. WU took a quick and early 3-0 lead in the first inning over Dominican. The Wildcats added a run in the second inning and two in the third.
Wilmington added three more runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 9-0 over the Chargers. In the seventh inning, the Wildcats used a big 11 run inning to extend their lead out to 20-0 over the Chargers.
DC recorded five hits as a team. Billy Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.) had a two-hit game including a solo homer in the seventh inning to put the Chargers on the board. Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.), Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.), and Elijah Tavarez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) each finished the game with one hit for the Chargers. Tavarez also walked and stole a base in the game.
Max Carney, Luke Johnson, and Eddie Nevins each recorded four hits in the win to lead the Wildcats. Nevins drove in four RBI's while Brooks Ryan, Luke Johnson, and Dan Hyatt each drove in three runs. Hyatt roped a homer to right center field in the second inning. The Win gave the Wildcats their 13th on the season.
Game Two: The Wildcats completed the sweep over the Chargers with a 6-1 win in game two. Tyler Campbell earned the win for WU with 5.1 innings pitched. Brandon Mology (Wall Township, N.J.) pitched five innings and recorded five strikeouts.
The Wildcats recorded 12 hits in game two to help them secure the win. Wilmington jumped out in front with a run in the opening inning. Wilmington added three runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth inning. DC got in the board with a run in the sixth inning when Justin Decker singled in the only run of the game for the Chargers.
Brooks Ryan led the Wildcats with three RBI's and two hits including a three-run homer in the fourth inning. Eddie Nevins had two hits and an RBI including a double and a triple including two runs scored.
DC will be back in action on Tuesday, March 26th when they host the Bears of Bloomfield College. Game one is scheduled 3:00 PM and game two will follow at 6:00 PM.
