MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS SHORT TO JEFFERSON

Philadelphia, Pa. (2/9/19) The Chargers fell to the Jefferson Rams on Saturday by a score of 78-71. The Chargers fall to 16-5 (11-2 CACC) after the loss. The Rams improved to 16-6 (11-2 CACC) after the win.
In the opening half, the Rams built a double-digit lead over the Chargers. DC was able to cut the deficit before halftime and trailed the Rams by a score of 33-26 at the break.
Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) scored 10 points and recorded four rebounds in the opening half to lead the Chargers. Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored eight points in the first half for the Chargers and made two three-pointers.
Deondre Bourne led all scorers on the opening half with 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Rams. The Rams shot 44.4% from the field in the half and outrebounded the Chargers 21-12.
In the second half, the Chargers fought back to tie the game and regained the lead for the first time since the opening minutes of the first half. The Rams answered and took back the lead.
The Rams never gave the lead back and closed out the win. The Rams shot 68.4% in the second half to help seal the victory. The Rams recorded 20 free throws in the second half and made 18 which helped in the win.
Rodwell finished the game shooting six for nine from three-point range and scored 22 points in the loss to lead the Chargers. Gardener finished with 17 points while Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) added 14 points all in the second half. Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored 10 points and Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) recorded eight rebounds and four steals.
DeVaughn Mallory led the Rams with 26 points and nine rebounds. Deondre Bourne scored 25 points and recorded 11 rebounds. The Rams as a team shot 54.3% from the field in the win.
The Chargers will look to bounce back when they travel to Concordia College this coming Wednesday, February 13th for a conference game against the Clippers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
