CHARGERS CONTINUE WINNING WAYS WITH VICTORY OVER LIGHTNING
Wilmington, Del. (12/31/22) The #17/#21 Dominican University New York men's basketball topped the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning, 95-76, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest played in the Joseph West Jones Center.

With the win Dominican improves to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play, while the Lightning fall to 4-9 overall and 1-2 in the CACC.
Goldey-Beacom led 14-9 with 15:19 left in the first half when the Chargers went on a 23-6 run to jump ahead 32-20 with under 10 minutes left in the half. The Lightning would could the lead to 45-43 with under a minute to go, but senior Justin Copman (Cumberland, Md.) closed out the half with a layup for the 45-41 advantage at the break.
Guard Javel Cherry (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored 13 points in the first half, shooting 5-8 from the floor and 3-4 from three-point range. Dominican shot 60.0% (18-30) from the floor, 50.0% (5-10) from the three point arc and 57.1% (4-7) from the charity stripe in the first half.
Dominican never trailed in the second half and led by as many as 21 points (95-74) with under a minute to play en route to the 95-76 victory.
The Charger bench produced 51 points in the contest. As a whole the offense shot well, going 34-57 (59.6%) from the floor, 10-18 (55.6%) from the three point arc and 17-20 (85.0%) from the foul line.
Cherry finished with a career high 30 points (10-13 from the floor, 5-6 from the three-point arc and 5-5 from the free throw line) and five rebounds in the win.
Forward Copman pulled down eight rebounds, to go along with 15 points. Wahaad Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jaden Honis (Bridgwater, N.J.) scored 11 points a-piece, with Honis adding three caroms and three assists.
Joshua Serrano (Amityville, N.Y.) netted 10 points, while Seth Sharif-Brown (Hackensack, N.J.) scored eight points, eight boards and two assists. Brandt Roundtree (Plainfield, N.J.) also tallied eight points, six rebounds and a team best five assists.
The Lightning were led by Zayon Marsh with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Ayshion Centeno added 21 points.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday, January 7th when they host Wilmington University in the 15th Annual James Clancy Memorial Game. Tip-off is slated for 3pm on Coach Baxter Court.
