#3 DOMINICAN RALLIES TO UPEND RAVENS
Rindge, N.H. (12/29/23) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team, currently ranked third in the East Region by the College Sport Communicators, rallied from a nine point deficit at halftime to defeat the Franklin Pierce University Ravens, 83-80, this afternoon in non-conference action played at The Fieldhouse.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 9-2 overall while the Ravens drop to 3-8 on the season.
Forward Seth Sharif-Brown (Hackensack, N.J.) led all scorers with 25 points (9-18 from the floor), five rebounds, four steals and two blocks in the victory.
Joshuel White (Paterson, N.J.) came off the bench to scored 16 points and five boards, while Juelz Dickerson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pulled down a team best six caroms and five points.
Guard Javel Cherry (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored nine points.
Franklin Pierce opened the contest with the first nine points, but Sharif-Brown scored a layup to begin an 11-0 run by the Chargers to put them up, 11-9, with a little over 14 minutes left in the half. Dominican held a 29-28 edge with five minutes left in the half, but the Ravens closed out the period on a 14-4 run to claim a 42-33 advantage at the break.
Dominican trailed 66-61 with 9:07 left in regulation when the team scored five straight points to knot the score at 66-all. With the score tied at 79-79 guard Jaden Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) put the Chargers ahead with a layup (81-79) with 35 ticks left. After a 1-2 trip to the charity stripe for the Ravens cut the lead to 81-80, White went to the line and converted both attempts to make the score 83-80. FPU had a chance to tie on a last second trey, but the shot missed the hoop and DUNY secured the 83-80 win.
The Chargers return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Assumption University at 3:30pm in their final game of 2023.
