CHARGERS BASKETBALL FALL IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/25/24) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team fell to the visiting Rams of Thomas Jefferson University, 93-74, this evening in a non-conference game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Dominican drops to 11-6 overall while the Rams improve to 12-7.
Forward Seth Sharif-Brown (Hackensack, N.J.) led three Chargers in double figures with 17 poins (6-10 from the floor, 4-5 from the foul line), five assists and four rebounds.
Joseph Merrill (Derry, N.H.) netted 14 points (5-9 from the floor, 4-7 from the three-point arc) and five rebounds.
Sophomore Isaiah Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) scored 13 points (5-10 from the floor) and pulled down a team best six rebounds.
Hakim Byrd led the Rams with 25 points.
Thomas Jefferson shot well from the floor (57.6%; 24-59) and scored 75 points off 14 Dominican turnovers. The Rams also held the advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Chargers 35-26.
Dominican opened the contest with the first five points and used a trey from Merrill with 5:12 left in the first half to take their biggest lead, 32-26. TJU closed out the period on a 15-6 run to pull in front 41-37.
A 10-2 run by the Chargers to start the second half regained a 47-43 advantage, but the Rams rallied with a 17-7 spurt to retake a nine point lead (67-58) and never looked back.
The Chargers return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Chestnut Hill College in the 35th Annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial Game.
