SECOND HALF SURGE LEADS PURPLE KNIGHTS OVER CHARGERS
Bridgeport, Conn. (1/31/24) The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team scored 56 points in the second half to propel them to a 93-76 victory over the visiting Chargers of Dominican University New York this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division contest held in Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium.
Following the loss, Dominican is now 13-7 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
Guard Jaden Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) led Dominican and all scorers with 21 points (10-12 from the charity stripe) in the loss.
Sam Parris (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) added nine points, while Joshuel White (Paterson, N.J.) tallied seven points, a team best six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Forward Emmanuel Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) netted seven points and four caroms.
The Purple Knights were led by Sam DeSouza with the double-double of 19 points and 12 boards.
The Chargers opened the contest with a trey from Parris, but UB would later lead 30-20 with seven and a half minutes left in the first half. A 16-7 Charger run, capped off by a a three-point bucket from White with 33 seconds left pulled DUNY within a point at the break.
Trailing 54-47 in the second, Dominican netted nine straight points to claim a 56-54 advantage with 11:02 left in regulation. Honis would later re-tie the game twice on a free throw (58-58 9:53 left) and a three-point shot (61-61 9:04 left), but a UB 9-1 run rebuilt an eight point advantage and they never looked back en route to the win.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Goldey-Beacom College in a CACC contest on Coach Baxter Court.
