Hillburn, N.Y. (4/13/19) The Dominican College men's lacrosse team fell 15-12 to the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

With the win CHC improves to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the CACC, while Dominican falls to 2-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Dominican trailed 9-3 with 6:49 left in the second quarter when senior midfielder Ryan Ward (Galloway, N.J.) scored a goal off the assist from Nicolas Jelovcic (Massapequa, N.Y.).  Junior Marcos Pierce (Middleburg, Va.) followed with the next scores off assists from Luke Martini (Abington, Mass.) and Daniel Carson (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 9-6 at the intermission.

CHC opened the third quarter with goal, but the Dominican offense went on a 4-0 tear to tie the game, 10-10, with 2:55 left in the quarter.  Martini began the run with a man-up goal and Jelovcic followed three minutes later and junior Ryan Fischer (Monroe, N.Y.) recorded an unassisted goal with 3:19 left in the quarter.  Martini ended the run and tied the contest with his second game goal off the dish from Jelovcic to make the score 10-10.  The Griffins regained the lead with 35 ticks left in the third quarter for the 11-10 edge.

Fischer brought the Chargers within a goal, 12-11, with just under 13 minutes and later Nicholas D'Alessandro (Levittown, N.Y.) made the score 13-12 with 11:17 to play but the Griffins recorded the last two goals for the 15-12 victory.

Martini led Dominican with three goals and one assist.

Pierce, D'Alessandro and Fischer all finished with two game goals, while Ward, Jelovcic and senior Shaun Palmer (Massapequa, N.Y.) had one goal each in the loss.

Freshman goalie Patrick Gifford (Galloway, N.J.) made a career high 18 saves.

The Chargers return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to CACC opponent, Felician University.
