CHARGERS FALL TO GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY ON SENIOR DAY

Hillburn, N.Y. (4/27/19) The Dominican College men's lacrosse team fell to the Lions of Georgian Court University by a score of 15-10 on Senior Day. The Chargers finish the 2019 regular season with a record of 3-11 (2-3 CACC). The Lions improve to 9-8 (5-1 CACC) on the season.
Before the start of the game, DC's five seniors were recognized in the Senior Day ceremony. Seniors David Ventura (White Plains, N.Y.), Ryan Ward (Galloway, N.J.), Tyler Maher (Carmel, N.Y.), Shaun Palmer (Massapequa, N.Y.), and Kyle Souza (Stratford, Conn.) were all recognized during the pregame ceremony.
DC got on the board first with a goal by Ryan Fischer (Monroe, N.Y.) less than a minute into the first quarter. The Lions answered with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. Luke Martini (Abington, Mass.) scored with just over four minutes to play in the opening quarter and the Lions held a 3-2 lead heading into the second quarter.
The Lions scored seven goals in the second quarter while DC scored four and the Lions held a 10-6 lead at halftime. Luke Martini added two more goals in the second quarter while Shaun Palmer and Lorcan Teahan (Sparkill, N.Y.) also scored in the quarter.
DC outscored the Lions in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 11-9 heading into the fourth quarter. Erick Santamaria scored twelve seconds into the third quarter and DC answered with three unanswered goals.
Marcos Peirce (Middleburg, Va.), Ryan Fischer, and Luke Martini each scored a goal in the third quarter to help cut the GCU lead to two goals.
GCU used a four-goal run to in the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 15-9. Fischer ended the run late in the fourth quarter, but the Lions were able to close out the win.
Tanner Lee led the way for the Lions with four goals and also added one assist. Randy Collins added three goals. Michael Ventresca added two goals while Brian Razler, P.J. Saracino, Erick Santamaria, Ryder Verdoni, Troy Longley, and Patrick Quinn each added one goal in the win.
Luke Martini finished the game with four goals and one assist, while Ryan Fischer added three goals. Shaun Palmer, Lorcan Teahan, and Marcos Peirce each added one goal. Teahan and Peirce each recorded two assists.
Austin Geissel earned the win in goal for the Lions and made 26 saves in the victory. Patrick Gifford (Galloway, N.J.) started in goal for the Chargers and recorded seven saves. John Rooney (Bellmore, N.Y.) entered the game at the beginning of the third quarter and recorded eight saves.
The Chargers will be back in action on Thursday, May 2nd when they travel to Lakewood, N.J. for the CACC Championship Semifinals. The #4 seed Chargers will face the #1 seed Chestnut Hill College Griffins at 12:00 PM.
