MEN'S LACROSSE TURNED AWAY BY LIONS
Rockville Centre, N.Y. (3/2/24) The Dominican University New York men's lacrosse team suffered a non-conference loss to the Lions of Molloy University this afternoon at the RVC Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
The Chargers fall to 0-3 overall this season while the Lions improve to 2-3 overall.
Freshman goalkeeper Bryce Layton (Glenville, N.Y.) started for the Chargers and made 13 saves but suffered the loss. Christian Michaels made 11 saves in goal for Molloy and earned the win.
Molloy got off to a fast start with four unanswered goals to begin the game and gave the Lions a 4-0 lead. Terence O'Loughlin (Nanuet, N.Y.) ended the run late in the opening quarter to put the Chargers on the board.
Dominican added two more goals to start the second quarter which brought the Molloy lead to one goal.
Both teams traded the next two goals of the game with the Lions extending their lead to 5-3 before halftime and the Chargers cutting the deficit back to one to start the third quarter.
The Lions ended the third quarter with three unanswered goals and took an 8-4 lead into the fourth quarter.
Zachary Souza (Stratford, Conn.) scored his second goal of the game to start the fourth quarter and bring the deficit to three goals but Molloy ended the game with three straight goals to secure the 11-5 victory.
Souza finished the game with two goals on two shots. O'Loughlin finished with one goal and a team-high two assists for three points.
Kyle Benedetto (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Cole Vencak (Smithtown, N.Y.) each scored one goal and each took a team-high five shots. Benedetto and Joseph DeGregorio (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each added one assist.
The Lions were led by Mikey Rodin who scored a game high five goals and took a team-high 10 shots. Rodin also recorded two assists while Bryan Diliberto and Justin Palulis each scored two goals.
The Chargers return to action next Saturday afternoon when they return home to host Virginia State University on O'Brien Field.
