WOMEN'S LACROSSE CHARGE PAST WILDCATS
Buffalo, N.Y. (2/24/24) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team opened up the 2024 season with a 20-8 victory over Daemen University in a non-conference game played on Coyer Field.
The win lifts the Lady Chargers to 1-0 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 0-2 on the year.
Dominican trailed 2-1 with nine and a half minutes left in the first quarter when the Lady Charger offensive went on a 7-0 tear to claim an 8-2 advantage.
The Lady Chargers continued the run with the first three scores of the second quarter and ended the half on a 3-0 run to jump ahead 14-3 at the break.
DUNY added three goals in the third quarter and three more in the fourth for the 20-8 win.
Sophomore attacker Madelyn Grella (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) led all scorers with six goals and five assists.
Jordana Tomasetti (Middletown, N.J.) and Sydney Strohmayer (Rocky Point, N.Y.) netted three goals each, while Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.), Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) and Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) all tallied two goals a-piece in the win. Costello also dished out four assists.
Freshman Alexa Preston (Coram, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal and Anna Kaminskey (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) had the other Lady Charger goal.
Goalie Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) made six saves in 56 minutes, while Kathryn Ehrlinger (Levittown, N.Y.) played the final 3:52 in the net.
Dominican returns to action tomorrow as they take on D'Youville University.
