WOMEN'S SOCCER EARNS TRIP TO PLAYOFFS WITH WIN ON SENIOR DAY
Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/24/18) The Dominican College women’s soccer team defeated the Bears of Bloomfield College by a score of 4-1 on Senior Day.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/24/18) The Dominican College women's soccer team defeated the Bears of Bloomfield College by a score of 4-1 on Senior Day. With the win, the Chargers earned a spot in the 2018 CACC conference playoffs.
The Chargers celebrated their five seniors on Senior Day. Goalkeeper Angelica Contreras (Baytown, Texas), midfielder Amanda Saab (Oakland, N.J.), defenseman Nicole Bryson (Lumberton, N.J.), midfielder Jenna Gray (Pine Bush, N.Y.), and goalkeeper Autumn Rogers-Vazquez (New Milford, N.J.) were acknowledged in their final home game of the regular season.
Dominican, 4-12-1 (4-7-1 CACC), fell behind in the first half to the Bears 1-0 but scored four unanswered goals to earn the 4-1 win.
The opening goal for the Bears was scored by Emily Quiroz at the 27:46 mark of the first half. The Chargers tied the game when Megan Geary (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) scored her sixth goal of the year at the 31:51 mark. The score remained tied until the Chargers took the lead when Geary scored her second goal of the game at 67:12.
Dominican extended their lead to 3-1 when Lauren Drake (Clifton Park, N.Y.) scored at 74:03. Natalie Cargill (Colon, La Republica de Panama) scored the fourth and final goal for the Chargers at 78:01 to help solidify the win.
Dominican dominated the second half by taking 10 shots and scoring three times. The Chargers held the Bears to just one shot in the second half. Bailey Cummings (Clarkstown, N.Y.) and Taylor Calero (New City, N.Y.) each earned an assist in the win.
The Chargers will finish the regular season this Friday, October 26th when they travel to Queens College for a non-conference game at 3:00 PM.
