LADY CHARGERS SUFFER TOUGH LOSS TO MERCY COLLEGE

Nyack, N.Y. (10/19/17) The Dominican College Lady Chargers Volleyball team were on the road Thursday to face Mercy College after their home loss on Tuesday. The Lady Chargers are still seeking their first win of the 2017 season and were hoping they could earn it against Mercy. The Lady Chargers have had a tough season thus far but have been playing hard during these last stretch of games as we get closer towards the end of the season.
The first set was a back and forth contest between the teams and both teams had a chance to win towards the end. The teams were tied at 24 when Mercy took the lead 25-24 looking for the final point. Dominican scored the next three points in the set to take the early 1-0 match lead. Set number two was just as close as the first with Mercy securing the win by a score of 25-22. Mercy would then take the next two sets from Dominican to win the match three sets to one. The Lady Chargers played hard the whole match and deserved a win, but Mercy College ended up being too much for them.
In the loss, there were some strong performances by a couple different Lady Chargers in the match. Essence Boyd (Peekskill, N.Y.) had herself a great match scoring 14.5 points with four kills and eight service aces. Boyd also recorded 13 digs along with 18 assists which adds to her team leading 267 on the year. Gabrielle Napoleon (Springfield, Pa.) scored 11.5 points with 9 kills to go along with it and Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) scored 9.5 points while recording 7 kills as well as 11 digs. Natalia Perez (Prosper, Texas) continues to lead the team in digs and adds 13 more in the match which gives her 238 on the season.
The Lady Chargers dropped to 0-22 (0-12 CACC) with the loss and will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Chestnut Hill College. With eight matches left to play in the season, the Lady Chargers will look to end the season off on the right foot.
