Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (9/10/19) The Dominican College women's volleyball team fell to the Mavericks of Mercy College three sets to none.
The Mavericks swept DC in the non-conference match to improve their overall record on the early season to 3-2. DC falls to 0-3 to start the season.
DC held a lead in the opening match over the Mavericks but lost the lead late on a 13-2 run by the Mavericks who stole the first match. The second match was back and forth between both teams before the Mavericks ended the match on a 15-2 run. The Mavericks sealed the victory with a 25-13 win in the third and final match.
Senior Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) led the way for DC with ten points, nine kills, and eight digs. Senior Gabrielle Napoleon (Springfield, Pa.) added six points with two kills while Senior Malia Robinson (Jersey City, N.J.) finished with 4.5 points and Senior Mykalee Chambers (Bronx, N.Y.) added 3.5 points. Freshman Alicia Dennis (Kemp, Texas) scored eight points and added four kills and four digs. Senior Sara Hayward (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) led the team in assists with eleven.
For the Mavericks, Imani DeBose led the way with 12.5 points, twelve kills, and also added three digs. Natalia Garcia scored 8.5 points, recorded nine digs, and finished with a team-high 17 assists. Selma Vulic added seven points, six kills, and finished with a team-leading eleven digs.
DC will look to bounce back and earn their first win of the season when they travel to the College of St Rose on Friday, September 13th at 6:00 PM.
