CHARGERS EXTEND STREAK WITH VICTORY OVER PURPLE KNIGHTS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/29/23) THe Dominican University New York men's basketball team extended their winning streak to seven games after defeating the University of Bridgeport, 99-71, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win Dominican improves to 7-0 on the season and 1-0 in CACC play.
Bridgeport opened the contest with the first basket, but the Chargers went on a 12-4 run to pull ahead 12-6 and would maintain the lead for the rest of the half to take a 54-31 lead into the intermission.
The Chargers shot above 50 percent from the floor, beyond the three-point arc and from the foul line in the first frame. Joshua Serrano (Amityville, N.Y.) and Seth Sharif-Brown (Hackensack, N.J.) both netted 11 points in the half, while Javel Cherry (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Joseph Merrill (Derry, N.H.) each had 10 points in the period.
Dominican never trailed in the scond half and led by as many as 32 points midway through the second period as they went on to the 99-71 win.
Serrano led six Chargers in double figures with 18 points and nine assists.
Isaiah Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) tied his career high with 15 points and six rebounds, while Sharif-Brown also tallied 15 points, five caroms and two assists.
Guard Merrill finished with 13 points and Cherry tallied 10 points, five boards and three assists.
The Chargers, currently ranked fourth in the lastest D2CSC East Region poll, returns to action on Saturday when they travel to CACC foe, Post University.
